the yearly pilgrimage to san diego

Every June, we take the girls to San Diego where JB is the chair of a conference and, I must say, it’s a pretty sweet deal for us. We get to stay at the lovely Rancho Bernardo Inn for a week in a suite that we are not charged for since JB is the big muckity-muck who decides to hold the conference at the resort thus filling it to capacity for 4 days. :) We always spend a week there so that JB actually gets some down-time in San Diego as well.

Here’s a couple photos of the normally camera-shy JB while hanging with his brother George on the veranda of the suite…
Part of the tradition of this trip is having George (who lives in the San Francisco bay area) come and hang out with us for a few days.
Leslie knows how to eat popsicles while remaining oh-so stylish in her new sunglasses…
Kadel relieves the stress of finishing a grueling kindergarten year by lounging near the pool…
Our friend, Jan, assists the girls with their pool acrobatics…
The next day, while JB had to attend the conference, the girls and I headed to the San Elijo beach where George was surfing…
Looking to the left… and to the right… this is the kind of crowd (or rather, lack of) that I prefer.Kadel started having a jumping fit…

On another day, while JB was still in the conference (poor guy), George and I took the girls over to Torrey Pines State Reserve and hiked around the cliffs. After the hike, we stopped by the beach for a little cool down, rock throwing (Leslie), and contemporary dance (Kadel). After the conference finished, JB and I took the girls to LEGOLAND. They loved it, of course.
I know this seems a little incongruous but I couldn’t resist snapping a photo of the grasses that bordered one of the rides.
Family self-portrait!
A view of the veranda right outside our suite. (I love this place!)

This is always such a nice vacation and great way to kick off the summer for the kids and for me. Thanks to JB for working so hard on the conference so that we get to come back every year!
