A few months ago, I was lucky to be able to attend the ginormous conference + expo held by Wedding and Portrait Professionals International (or WPPI) in Las Vegas. And not only did I get to go but I roadtripped there with 3 of my favorite photographer friends from my Boulder County Photographers group. It was an adventure as well as a nice little break from taking care of my two 7-year-old girls and my dogs, a 13-year-old aussie and 3-month-old aussie. Ah, sweet relief! ;)
Among the many classes at the conference and the daunting number of vendors at the expo, there are photo shoots for which you can pay extra to partake along with a dozen or so other photographers all jockeying for position to capture the shot. Instead, my friends and I decided to create our own photoshoot.
Molly came up with the theme of “bohemian gypsy in the desert” and created a pinterest board for inspiration. We jumped all over that idea and styled the shoot with clothes, shoes, and accessories from our own closets and supplemented it with a trip to the thrift store to pick out just the right pieces. We found two local models (who happened to be good friends) and a location just outside of Vegas with a dry lake bed, tumbleweeds and cacti. After an amazing few hours in the desert, here are the results…
This was by far one of the most creatively inspiring shoots I’ve done! Thank you Molly, Heather, and Kelsey for being such awesome travel buddies and for inspiring me to do more. Love you!
